A Kingdom of Care: The Earliest Jesus Movement

Join us for an engaging POP-UP webinar with Reverend Gordon W. G. Raynal as he explores the roots, aims, and evolution of the apostolic mission in the early Jesus movement. Drawing from his thought-provoking articles in The Fourth R, Raynal offers a fresh perspective on Jesus' role and the transition from networked families to institutionalized church structures.

Fourth R editor Robert Miller will interview Raynal, followed by an interactive Q&A with participants.

Preparation: Read the linked articles and Raynal’s translation of Psalm 103 to enrich your experience. Don’t miss this deep dive into the Hebrew roots of early Christianity!

More info:

What was the apostolic (envoy) mission? What was its aim, its structure and its leadership? What was Jesus’ role in the mission? How did it develop and change across the early years?

Across the last fifteen years, Westar Associate, the Reverend Gordon W. G. Raynal, has written a series of articles about different aspects of these questions. In his article, “The First Sermon” (March-April 2022), he summed his understanding of Jesus’ contribution to this social effort. And in the two-part article, “From Networked Families to Monarchical Church” (November-December 2023 and January-February 2024, he described the original work of this social effort and how it developed across the First Century of the Common Era. The Fourth R editor, Robert Miller did a print interview with Raynal in the May-June 2024 edition of the magazine. As Raynal’s work provides a distinctive focus that is rooted in his understanding of the Hebrew roots of Jesus and the movement, in this event Miller will interview Gordon and then open the conversation to all the participants.
