Sanford Lowe, known as Sandy, was a Rabbi and Biblical Scholar who taught at Santa Rosa Junior College. Lowe was a significant voice in the work of the Jesus Seminar. He brought his expertise from Judaism to bear on the question of the historical Jesus and the birth of Christianity. He was of insurmountable importance when it came to the question of placing the historical Jesus in his proper context. Lowe received a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Pacific School of Religion in 1985 where his thesis focused on teaching religion in the context of secular schools. Lecturing widely in California and other parts of the U.S. on his specialty, The Jewish Jesus, Lowe developed a reputation that reached far over the borders of Sonoma County to the eastern U.S. and Europe. For this, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Hebrew Union College.
