published in June 2005, who will give the evening lecture. A second workshop is being planned.
Westar Receives Grant We are pleased to announce that Westar Institute has received a grant from the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter
Foundation for $15,000 in support of efforts to expand and diversify the base of Fellows. Over the years, Westar has distinguished itself through its cutting edge scholarship in religion and theology; a key
to carrying this scholarship into the future is having a diverse group of scholars with a variety of interests and backgrounds. Also important is recruiting young, graduate level scholars to participate in
our seminars. This grant, in combination with support from our donors, will help us achieve these important goals. Paul Translation Committee Meets A donation from a Westar associate enabled members of
the Paul translation committee to come together for a week long June meeting at Westar Institute's new quarters. In attendance were Daryl Schmidt, Brandon Scott, Arthur Dewey, Edward Beutner, Roy Hoover and
Robert Funk. According to committee chair, Daryl Schmidt, the opportunity to work together for a full week in a genuine seminar setting epitomized the Westar experience of a collaborative project. The
translation committee focused on key Pauline passages, such as "justification by faith," and discovered genuinely fresh insights for translating Paul into English. The committee expects to debut new SV
translations of select Pauline letters at the Spring 2006 meeting. CEUs In addition to offering CEUs for the 2006 summer school, we are pleased to announce
that Westar will offer .5 CEU for attendance at Jesus Seminars on the Road. Following up on a request from our Canton, New York, hosts, we determined that we meet all of the necessary requirements. Persons
wishing to receive CEUs should let the Westar staff know in advance so that we have time to set up appropriate record keeping.
